WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD – Do not read on if you have yet to see Avengers: Infinity War.
But in a new interview with E! News, Saldana appeared to let slip that she DOES appear in sequel Avengers 4 – and will be returning to set later this year to polish up a few scenes.
So does this mean Gamora’s death will somehow be reversed?
Asked about the final day of filming on Infinity War, she said: “It felt like a TBC [to be continued], because I know that we will all have to come back at some point and finish up the second [movie], the fourth instalment of Avengers.
“So it felt like a ‘see you later’, it didn’t feel like a formal goodbye.”
Chris Pratt – who plays Star-Lord/Peter Quill – appeared alongside her and seemed to echo the sentiment.
His character was one of a great many who fell victim to the Snap at the end of Infinity War, when Thanos collected all of the Infinity Stones – although virtually everyone expects most, if not all, of those characters to return somehow, given their future film plans (in this case Guardians of the Galaxy 3).
The new MCU blockbuster has already had a staggering start at the global box office, enjoying a $39 million on opening night in the US on Thursday.
For comparison, both Black Panther and Avengers: Age Of Ultron were hailed as huge openers when they launched to just under $30 million each on their opening nights, so Infinity War has gone even higher.
It’s still, however, not quite up there with Star Wars: The Force Awakens; which launched to over $50 million at the end of 2015.
However it seems a safe bet that Infinity War will become one of the biggest films of all time by the time it finishes its box office run.
And with fans rushing to see it before they fall victim to spoilers, its opening weekend total is sure to be enormous.
Avengers: Infinity War is out now.
