Carlos Sanchez was sent off just three minutes into Colombia’s World Cup match against Japan, drawing comparisons to Luis Suarez after a deliberate handball.

The former Aston Villa midfielder was given his marching orders for blocking a goal-bound shot .

Referee Damir Skomina brandished the red card but Sanchez initially refused to leave the field, sitting down on the turf in disbelief.

The incident has already been compared to Luis Suarez’s controversial save on the line at the 2010 World Cup which helped Uruguay beat Ghana in the quarter-finals.
