The trailer of Creed 2 shows the boxing champion facing a rival “with ties to his family’s past.”
The tie goes directly from Creed’s past to viewers heartstrings with an emphatic tug.
Who does Creed fight in Creed II?
The final moments of the Creed 2 trailer show Adonis in the boxing ring with a boxer whose jacket displays the name Drago.
But not the Drago you think – this Drago is Viktor Drago.
Drago Jr is being played by Romanian boxer Florian “Big Nasty” Munteanu, who stands at an impressive 6’4″.
Viktor is the son of Rocky-franchise villain Ivan (Dolph Lundgren) who killed Creed’s father, Apollo in 1985 sequel Rocky IV.
Rocky reminds viewers (and Adonis, in case he forgot) in the trailer when he tells Adonis: “Your father died in my arms.”
The trailer also shows Westworld star Tessa Thompson reprising her role as Bianca, Creed’s girlfriend.
Creed also seems to have a baby, giving an added dimension of family drama to the already dramatic boxing movie.
The trailer is set to the song DNA by the award-winning Kendrick Lamar.
The first Creed movie, released in 2015, garnered critical acclaim and several award nominations.
Creed helped to launch the career of Michael B Jordan ahead of his evil role as Kilmonger in the hit Marvel movie Black Panther.
For Creed 2, Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan reprises his role as the underdog Adonis Creed, the son of Apollo Creed.
Despite Rocky’s hesitance in the trailer, the official plot synopsis says: “Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family.
“Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.”
Creed 2 will be released in cinemas on November 30, 2018.
