However, when he reached 34st he had to give up the cycling because he was too fat for any saddle.

But now the 31-year-old from Poole, Dorset, is back on his bike again after losing 21 stone.

Shaun put on weight after years of gorging on chocolate, takeaways, fizzy drinks and two bowls of sugary cereal every morning.

But after joining Slimming World in 2016 he managed to ditch his high-fat, high-sugar diet.

Since turning his life around, he has been named Slimming World’s Greatest Loser 2018.

He said: “I loved my bike but eventually I became too big to ride any more.”

“My weight was affecting every aspect of my life, so much so that I hadn’t been to the doctors in years because I was so scared of what they’d say.”

“It got to the stage I thought nobody would employ me because of my size.”

“Even small things would be a struggle. I had no energy. All I would do is sit in the shop all day and then go and watch TV. Walking upstairs would be a massive effort and my family had commented on how laboured my breathing was. I couldn’t see a way out.”

Before dropping to 13st, Shaun had a 66in waist and had to buy 8XL T-shirts.

He was in constant pain and struggled with skin infections, breathing difficulties and complications with his back and joints.

He eventually took his mother’s advice and joined Slimming World after she had lost 6st at the club.

He said: “Although it was terrifying, plucking up the courage to join was the best decision I ever made and I wasn’t the only man in the room either.”

His new diet allows a full English for breakfast – grilled bacon, low-fat sausages, tomatoes and mushrooms – pasta salad for lunch, fresh fruit for snacking and a chicken risotto for dinner.

He added: “These days I’m taking part in 20-mile cycle rides for fun. Life is totally different now. I have so much energy to do the things I enjoy.”
