news, local-news,

The residents of Dahlsford Grove Lifestyle Village have hosted a morning tea for cancer, with the focus firmly on helping local cancer patients being treated at their local cancer centre. The morning tea attracted more than 100 residents and delivered a generous $1190 donation to the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute (MNCCI) at Port Macquarie. MNCCI representative Mary Spackman visited Dahlsford Grove to thank the residents for their support. “We are very grateful for this donation, which helps us support our patients,” Ms Spackman said. “Dahlsford Grove residents have a long history of helping Port Macquarie Base Hospital and MNCCI patients, and we are very thankful for that support. “It helps us to purchase items, such as adjustable recliners and waiting room furnishings, that ensure patients have a more comfortable stay with us. “The funds also help us to purchase specialist medical equipment that assists with cancer treatment.” Fundraiser coordinator Margaret Gowans said the Dahlsford Grove Lifestyle Village Morning Tea for Cancer had not only been a success in terms of cancer support, but was also a successful social event. “It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to have morning tea and chat while supporting something very serious, which has touched a lot of lives in our little community,” Mrs Gowans said. “The opportunity to help local patients, to keep the funds in our local community, was something everyone wanted to be involved in. “Of course, an event like this requires a huge effort from the committee and residents who made the lovely cakes so I want to thank everyone who helped make the morning tea possible, and thank those who attended, and continue to do so each year. “It’s a great feeling knowing we are making a difference right here in Port Macquarie when it comes to cancer treatment and patient support.”
