Ambrose left the wrestling giants last April to join All Elite Wrestling and made his debut at the rival promotion’s first ever show Double or Nothing as his old hardcore gimmick of Jon Moxley.
Moxley used to wrestle in WWE as a whacky, unpredictable and dangerous character nicknamed The Lunatic Fringe but had a lot of conversations with the company’s Chairman and CEO McMahon the last six years about the way he was being booked.
The ex-WWE Champion remembered specifically one night when he was handed a script that had him telling the crowd the things he did before arriving in the arena that were supposed to make him look relatable.
But instead he claims they made him look like an “idiot” even though McMahon insisted it would still get the fans behind him.
Moxley told Talk Is Jericho: “They weren’t things that a cool person does, that a relatable person does, that a guy you want to have a beer with does, not even things a guy you would root for does.
“These were things that an idiot would do.
“Things along the lines of driving backwards on the street on a unicycle or sharing a pizza with a homeless man on the street… Weird stuff like that.
“So I’m like, I’m not saying any of that.
“He [McMahon] is like, ‘Oh, it’s such good s**t. This is the reason people like you. This is you.’
“And I’ve had a million conversations with him that are almost the exact same conversation about similar promos.
“And I said, ‘So I’m an idiot?’
“And he goes, ‘No, it’s you. You’re different.’
“That kind of sums up the battle I’d been fighting for six years.”
Moxley seems set to feud with Kenny Omega and have a dream match with him in the near future in AEW.
