Cavani has fired Uruguay 2-1 up against Portugal, scoring in either half with Pepe notching in between.
However, the PSG hitman’s World Cup campaign has now hit a low note with the 31-year-old hobbling off.
Cavani was seen limping from the field with Real Madrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo helping him from the pitch.
It appears to be a leg injury with the PSG forward strapping it up after being forced from the field.
With Uruguay going through, as things stand, it could be a blow for their World Cup campaign given his stunning display tonight.
His first goal was a cushioned header after a stunning cross from Luis Suarez.
And his second was an instinctive shot that curled beyond the reach of Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio.
BBC commentator Dion Dublin was full of praise for Cavani after his second goal went in.
“That man Cavani. He has got two goals because he has worked so hard for his team,” Dublin said.
“He sprints towards the 18-yard line and he curls it in the corner.
“Two unbelievable finishes from the striker.”
Portugal are continuing to throw the kitchen sink at Uruguay.
But so far, Cavani’s goal has won the game.
