Prince William, 36, the Duke of Cambridge is on a special trip.

William was in Israel, the first official visit by the UK to the country, and today he visited Jordan.

William will travel on to Jerusalem at the start of four-day trip which will include a visit to the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Duke has embarked on the trip without his wife, Kate Middleton the Duchess of Cambridge, also 36.

So why isn’t Kate Middleton on the historic trip?

Prince William told people gathered in Jordan on Sunday.

He said: “(She is) very sorry she cannot be here with me so soon after the birth of our son Louis [on April 23], but her family remembers very fondly the almost three years she spent here as a child when her father worked for British Airways in Amman.”

He added, according to People Magazine: “Catherine’s experience is not unique—the interchange between our two countries is real and deep: work, study, tourism and family links.”

However, he did reveal he may return with his wife and children.

The Daily Mail’s royal correspondent Rebecca English tweeted that the Duke said: “We will have to bring the kids next time.”

On arriving in Jordan, Prince William met with a picture of his wife there as a child, with her sister Pippa and her father Michael.

William even recreated the image on the same spot.

Kate Middleton has been seen rarely since the birth of her third child Prince Louis in April.
