That is the claim of Italian agent Fabio Parisi, who is discussing a move for the goalkeeper with Napoli.

Leno looks set to leave Leverkusen this summer after Heiko Herrlich landed Lukas Hradecky to be his new No 1.

The 26-year-old is not short of potential suitors though as he mulls over his future while at the World Cup with Germany.

Arsenal and Napoli have emerged as the frontrunners in the race to sign him up, with Liverpool said to be keeping him in mind too.

However, Parisi has indicated Jurgen Klopp is looking at other targets as he looks for upgrade on error-prone duo Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.

“I take care of the negotiation with Naples, I do not think the interest of the Reds is concrete,” Parisi told RMC Sport.

“There may be other interested English clubs, but I do not think the Napoli contender could be Liverpool.”

Liverpool have also been linked with Roma stopper Alisson Becker as they strengthen between the sticks.

Anfield hero Steve Nicol believes his old side should break the bank for the Brazilian.

“In a heartbeat,” said Nicol, when asked if he would spend a mega £79m to buy Alisson this summer.

“We sat here and mulled over the price tag for [Virgil] Van Dijk – did Van Dijk make a difference? My goodness did he make a difference. This team was transformed with Van Dijk in it.

“So imagine what would happen if they got Alisson. If you want to go for the big prizes you need to have good players and good players cost money.

“But you know what? Liverpool have the money. If you’ve got it, you spend it tomorrow, or in 10 minutes’ time, if you’ve got the opportunity.

“Do you buy two average players or one great player? You buy the great player.”
