London police rushed to Southwell Road in Brixton, south London, shortly after 6.20pm this evening.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called on Sunday, 10 June, shortly after 6.20pm to a report of a stabbing in Southwell Road, Brixton.

“A male, believed to be aged in his 20s, was found injured, and has been taken to hospital.

“His condition is serious but stable.”

More than 60 people have been killed on the streets of London this year with Mayor Sadiq Khan coming under increasing pressure to deal with the bloodshed.

Mr Khan has blamed the government and said on Twitter earlier this week: “The Government is failing in its primary duty to ensure the safety and security of the public.

“Following massive government cuts to police forces over the course of nearly eight years, crime is rising across the country, particularly violent crime such as knife crime & robbery.”

This is a breaking story, more to follow…
