Melania was photographed wearing a jacket with the message ‘I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?’ as she boarded a plane to visit the Texas detention centre holding children separated from their parents at the Mexico border.

She was widely criticised for wearing the coat that implied she did not care about Trump’s border policy that has caused outrage across the globe.

However, the President defended her actions and said she was sending a message to his critics.

Trump tweeted: “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” written on the back of Melania’s jacket refers to the Fake News Media.

“Melania has learned how dishonest they are.

“And she truly no longer cares!”

He has often referred to some of America’s biggest news agencies as fake news, including CNN and the The New York Times.

Melania’s personal spokeswoman also came to her defence earlier today, and also took the opportunity to take a shot at the mainstream media.

Stephanie Grisham tweeted earlier today: “Today’s visit with the children impacted The First Lady greatly.

“If media would spend their time and energy on her actions and efforts to help kids – rather than speculate and focus on her wardrobe – we could get so much accomplished on behalf of children”.

During her visit to Texas, the First Lady shook hands with officials at the US Mexico border.

She also the Lutheran Social Services of the South “Upbring New Hope Children’s Centre”.

The purpose of the visit was “to take part in briefings and tours at a nonprofit social services centre for children who have entered the United States illegally and a customs and border patrol processing centre,” according to a statement.

The visit came just one day after Trump bowed to international pressure and signed an Executive Order declaring that children would no longer be separated from their parents.

The legislation did not say what would happen to families that have already been separated.

The jacket she wore for the occasion is from high street chain Zara, and costs £29.
