Neymar: Cristiano Ronaldo claim made during Brazil vs Switzerland World Cup clash | Football | Sport

Ronaldo led Portugal to a thrilling 3-3 draw with Spain in their opening game of the tournament.

He scored all three including a stunning free kick late on to steal a point for his side.

Neymar started for Brazil in their first group game against Switzerland this evening.

Wright believes the Paris Saint-Germain star is in a great position to lead his side to glory and outdo Ronaldo in the process.

“I think the move to PSG and the standard of football he has been playing has inadvertently given him a year off,” Wright said of Neymar.

“If you put in the three months from the metatarsal injury, you have to say he’s been rested, he’s ready to go.

“I feel that he’s somebody that with the team he’s got around him as well, the gauntlet thrown down by Cristiano Ronaldo, I think he’s there and in the best shape to pick it up.”

Arsenal legend Wright has also praised the quality of Neymar’s team-mates, with Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino only earning a place on the bench against Switzerland despite a fine season at Anfield.

“I feel what they’ve got up front is fantastic. I feel (Gabriel) Jesus is fantastic,” he added.

“I do have a lot of time for Bobby Firmino, I think he’s excellent. He’s got to be very unlucky not to be in the team.

“But they have got players up front that are fantastic and with Neymar in the form we have seen him produce for Barcelona or PSG, that I don’t count, he can create loads of chances for his team.”
