Princess Eugenie is known for her bold dress sense, approachable persona and ’21st-century royal’ reputation. The flame-haired royal has racked up a reputation for her daring choice of headwear, especially at formal royal occasions.
The daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, 58, and the fiery Sarah Ferguson, 58, Eugenie is set to marry finance Jack Brooksbank later this year.
Despite often being slammed in the press for her sartorial sense, the wedding will give Eugenie the chance to up her appearance game.
As the second royal bride of 2018, Eugenie will have some big beauty boots to fill, but will also have her time in the spotlight and the chance to showcase her own unique beauty look.
Speaking to the Express.co.uk, royal expert William Fitzwilliams commented on Eugenie’s personal style, saying: “There are members of the royal family who are style icons but this could not be said of Eugenie who has not distinguished herself in the sartorial stakes so far.
“I think she will choose a delightful wedding dress and the wedding itself will be charming… Memories of Beatrice and Eugenie’s outfits at William and Kate’s wedding do die hard, so Eugenie must make sure she chooses the ideal wedding dress on her big day.”
It is unclear as to whether or not Eugenie will take inspiration from her mother Sarah’s famously daring wedding dress, as she has with her engagement ring, but one thing Eugenie will have to keep classic and traditional is her makeup.
Natural-looking makeup is just one of the strict rules that royal women, including the bride-to-be, are expected to adhere to. This includes forgoing bold colours, bright lipsticks and statement looks.
Leading by example, the Queen has long kept her makeup simple, with Meghan Markle following suit at her wedding to Prince Harry.
Whilst you’ll never see bold purples or bright pastels on the lips of the royals, you might catch red, with the Queen even commissioning her own shade of Clarins red lipstick – Balmoral.
Eugenie has often been spotted wearing a classic red lip, and could possibly sport one on her upcoming wedding day.
Kate Middleton also adheres to the natural makeup beauty rule, only occasionally wearing a neutral smokey eye. She also wore a more natural Bobbi Brown makeup look on her own wedding day.
Eugenie’s hair will also have to be perfect on her wedding day, with reported strict rules on the appearance of wayward strands and creative hairstyles. Kate Middleton is said to get her hair blowdried three times a week to maintain its smooth, glossy appearance, with Meghan also said to be doing the same.
When it comes to hairstyles, ponytails are allowed, as long as they’re styled in a neat and sophisticated way, but messy buns and other messy styles are not.
Bright nail polish is also reported to be a big royal no-no, with the Queen approving of nude, natural-coloured nails. Meghan Markle was often pictured in public and on her now-closed Instagram account wearing dark and bold-coloured varnishes, which she is now discouraged from doing.
It is reported that the Queen and members of the Royal Family often use Essie’s Ballet Slippers, and Eugenie could be spotted in the same shade on her big day.
While Eugenie is not expected to have her legs on display during her wedding day, other female members of the Royal Family will be expected to wear nude tights.
The Queen hasn’t been spotted in public without nude stockings in 91 years, with Kate Middleton having even been reported to have brought the seemingly outdated item back into fashion after her wedding.
Showing how well she is settling into royal life, Meghan Markle stepped out in nude tights at the 70th birthday of her father-in-law, Prince Charles.
