The Ocean’s 8 star said whilst recording this week’s edition of The Graham Norton Show that she is currently at work on her ninth studio album.
The megastar released her first seven albums in eight years between 2005 and 2012, before leaving just over a three-year gap before 2016’s Anti.
She told Norton: “I am actually in the studio at the moment.”
But pressed on a potential release date, she remained tight-lipped; saying: “You’ll just have to wait and see.”
Rihanna was also introduced to Olly Alexander of Years And Years, who performed in the studio.
Alexander, 27, was incredibly excited to meet his idol; saying: “I couldn’t sleep when I found out who would be on the show.”
Sitting alongside Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson and Sandra Bullock, he was asked to identify his favourite – and picked Rihanna.
“It’s you, it’s you, it’s you!” he beamed.
“You have been such an inspiration to me and I love you.”
Rihanna has featured on nine UK No1 singles, including collaborations – most recently DJ Khaled’s Wild Thoughts last summer.
Her last UK chart-topper as the lead artist was in 2012 with Diamonds, the lead single from her seventh album Unapologetic.
In Ocean’s 8 she stars as Nine Ball, a technical genius whose real name is Leslie.
The film has had generally positive reviews from critics and notably topped the US box office last weekend – scoring a better opening weekend than the male-dominated Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen (not accounting for inflation).
Ocean’s 8 is out in the UK on Monday.
