Authorities say they have arrested a man who shot at rangers at Everglades National Park on Sunday night.

The park’s Twitter account said about 8:20 p.m. that the suspect — a white, 33-year-old man — was on the loose.

But at 9:07 p.m., the park Tweeted that the man was in custody.

Officials had closed the main park road along State Road 9336, which is the southernmost headquarters of the national park.

“Visitors/residents in Flamingo should shelter in place,” the tweet said. “Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies are coordinating the response.”

“There are no injuries to report as of now,” the national park Tweeted at 8:41 p.m. Sunday. “Suspect fired at park rangers unprovoked. Suspect is still at large.”

Flamingo is about 88 miles southeast of Naples, at the south-central tip of the Florida peninsula.
