The UK’s best fish and chips shops have been named, with the top 10 finalists for the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award announced today.
Fish and chips is a staple of the British diet, one of the country’s most beloved dishes and a must-have on all tourists’ list.
With it being one of the nation’s signature dishes, it’s only right that an award exists solely dedicated to finding Britain’s best fish and chips.
Organised by Seafish, the annual National Fish & Chip Awards is a UK wide competition celebrating excellence in the fish and chip industry. With the finalists revealed, each of the top 10 will now fry high to become the best shop in the UK.

When it comes to determining the best fish and chips in the country, every aspect of the shop is scrutinised.
Far from an easy job, each chippy is judged on sustainable sourcing, menu innovation, marketing, staff training, marketing and customer service.
The awards have been going for 31 years, now recognised as one of the most respected seafood industry events in the country.
Following the announcement of the UK’s top 10, the shops will now head into the final stage of judging which will take place in London next January.
Talking about this year’s competition, Marcus Coleman, Chief Executive Officer at Seafish, said: “It’s not possible to reach this stage of the competition without displaying true quality in every aspect of running a fish and chip business, so these 10 shops should be extremely proud of what they’ve achieved so far.
“It’s that commitment to quality in all areas that make The National Fish & Chip Awards such a great experience for all involved.
“We’ve been lucky to see an incredibly high standard of entrant since we started this competition 31 years ago.
“We can say with certainty that this year’s top 10 display just as much talent and passion for the industry as any winner we’ve seen to date. Best of luck to everyone in the final.”
Earlier this year the 2018 competition was won by Millers Fish and Chips in Haxby, North Yorkshire.
The winner of the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award will be announced at The National Fish & Chip Awards’ 31st anniversary ceremony in London on 24 January 2019.
