Cape Coral woman pronounced dead after Lehigh Acres crash

An 18-year-old woman died Wednesday after she fell off the trunk of a car on Maple Street North in Lehigh Acres.

At 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, a 15-year-old girl, of Lehigh Acres, was driving a sedan with a 17-year-old girl, of Lehigh Acres, and the 18-year-old woman, of Cape Coral, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The older teen was riding on the exterior trunk portion of the sedan when she fell  and landed in the travel lane of Maple Avenue North near East Penn Road.

She was transported to a local hospital by emergency medical services where she was pronounced dead, the release states.

The incident  remains under investigation, and the identities of those involved in the crash have not been released. 

The Florida Highway Patrol lists 81 fatalities from crashes since January.
