A Cape Coral woman was killed Sunday when the truck she was a passenger in collided with a car that drove through a stop sign and she was ejected from the vehicle.

Cape Coral police identified the victim as Karrie Kendall and said she was a passenger in a Ford F150 that was heading north on Cultural Park Boulevard about 5:52 p.m.

Police said a Hyundai Veloster, driven west on N.E. Pine Island Lane by Virginia Martinez of Cape Coral, failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection with Cultural Park.

The Hyundai struck the right front/side of the Ford and both vehicles were forced to the Northwest where the truck rolled into a vacant field and came to rest right-side-up.

Police said that during the rolling, the truck’s driver, Neil E. Bushen of Cape Coral, and Kendall, one of two passengers in the truck, were not using seat belts and were ejected. The truck rolled over Kendall and she died at the scene.

Bushen was seriously injured and Martinez suffered life-threatening injuries.

A second passenger,  Jestin T. Brown, of Cape Coral, suffered minor injuries.

The death was the 84th fatality on Lee County roads in 2020.
