Rumours have been suggesting that Ambrose will not renew his contract and will depart from Vince McMahon’s promotion once his deal comes to an end in April.
WWE confirmed the reports with a short statement saying that The Lunatic Fringe will not sign a new deal with the wrestling giants and wished him the best in his future endeavours.
The company, though, is leaving the door open for The Moral Compass and they hope to have him back in the future.
WWE announced: “Dean Ambrose (Jonathan Good) will not be renewing his contract with WWE when it expires in April.
“We are grateful and appreciative of all that Dean has given to WWE and our fans.
“We wish him well and hope that one day Dean will return to WWE.”
Ambrose is one of WWE’s biggest stars that rose to prominence with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins ever since joining the main roster as members of the legendary Shield stable in 2012.
The 33-year-old grappler won the WWE Championship in 2016 and is also a three-time Intercontinental Champion, a two-time RAW Tag Team Champion and a former United States Champion.
But his recent lacklustre booking and the disappointing direction his character has taken has reportedly made him frustrated.
The publisher and editor of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Dave Meltzer backed those claims as he said the popular star doesn’t like being part of hokey angles.
Meltzer said: “There are situations that he didn’t really like hokey things.
“I know that to be true.
“I know that he doesn’t like scripted interviews.
“He gets really mad when he’s doing hokey scripted interviews.
“I mean that’s well known.
“So what he’s gonna do and everything like that you know he’s been pushed as a pretty big star.”
