eBay is the place to head when it comes to buying or selling rare coins, with hundreds making their way onto the site every day.
While some are old, dusty and virtually impossible to come across, others are shiny, newish and still in circulation.
One of these coins is a Benjamin Bunny 50p, that was listed on eBay this afternoon for a whopping £495.
The coin was made to commemorate the life of British author, Beatrix Potter, and was the final coin in the Beatrix Potter 2017 collection.
Hoping to attract sellers, the seller listed the item as a “Rare 50p Coin BENJAMIN BUNNY 2017.”
The description goes onto explain: “Extremely rare 50p coin Benjamin bunny 2017.”
The coin was listed on eBay by seller “ankh_945” who is based in Surbiton and boats 100 per cent positive feedback.
Minted last year, the coin was made to commemorate the story of Beatrix Potter’s Benjamin Bunny.
The coin was designed by Emma Noble and illustrates the adventure of a rabbit who embarks on a mission with Peter Rabbit.
It features Benjamin dressed in his little brown jacket and over-sized Tam o’ Shanter.
Benjamin Bunny’s story is one of the author’s little tales, a sequel to The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
The coin commemorating The Tale of Benjamin Bunny was part of the second series of coins minted last year.
The first Beatrix Potter series was minted in 2016, which proved extremely popular with coin collectors.
Despite the coin’s high listing price is actually not that rare at all, being rated as five (common) on scarcity index, Change Checker.
The coin had an initial mintage of 11,300,000, meaning many Britons will have this coin in their change.
Another “rare” 50p coin was listed on eBay this week with a much higher selling price.
Listed for a 10-day auction by eBay user “lloyd4483”, the 50p is selling for a whopping £1,000.
Hoping to bring in the big bucks, the coin’s title reads: “Rare battle of hastings 50p coin 2016.”
The description gives more away about the item, detailing: “Rare battle of hastings 50p coin 2016.
“Very beautiful in excellent condition 50p coin Battle of hastings. Very collectible. Rare 2016 !!!! (sic)”
