Here’s what’s happening around the state

  • Have you seen this in your area? Cities and states are trying to find creative ways to incentivize vaccines — like Ohio’s Vax-a-Million program. In Florida’s West Palm Beach, health officials have started setting up shop outside bars and restaurants downtown to lure reluctant young people to get inoculated.
  • By the numbers: Florida ranked 25th among states in share of people receiving at least one shot, with 45.7% of its residents at least partially vaccinated. Additionally, the Florida Department of Health reported a positivity rate of less than 5% for the sixth day in a row.
  • Mask conflicts live on: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may say fully vaccinated Americans no longer need to wear face masks, but the mask conflict at stores isn’t going away.
  • ‘Our own prom’: The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported that after Volusia County and Flagler County canceled their prom celebrations, a local family decided to organize its own event, not affiliated with the schools, that’s open to high school seniors and those who graduated last year who wouldn’t otherwise get a prom. Here’s the story, for subscribers.
