A 32-year-old man was found guilty Thursday in the 2021 sexual assault of a child.
Johnny Andrus Jackson, of Fort Myers, was found guilty of sexual assault on a child younger than 12; lewd and lascivious molestation; resisting or obstructing an officer without violence, and lewd or lascivious conduct, according to a press release from the State Attorney’s Office.
The jury returned the guilty verdict after a three-day trial in Lee County.
In July 2021, a child victim told a relative about the sexual assault by Jackson.
The relative contacted the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and located Jackson at a home in Lehigh Acres.
Jackson allegedly woke the victim by touching her thigh and placing her hand on his genitals July 28 of last year.
The victim said she pulled away, but Jackson began touching her and continued to assault her, according to a Lee County Sheriff’s arrest report.
That morning, the victim reported her claims against Jackson to someone in the home and when that person confronted him, he stated, “she provoked me,” deputies said.
When told the police were being called, Jackson said not to do so and “just kill me,” because he didn’t want to go to prison, that report says.
Jackson tried to stop the caller, but the residents locked him out of the house and he fled on foot.
When deputies arrived at the home, they found Jackson walking on a nearby street and arrested him.
Jackson faces sentencing Nov. 10.
