An eight-vehicle crash that investigators said started with a rear-end collision along U.S. 41 in Charlotte County injured nobody but the driver arrested in starting it is a Fort Myers man.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of a sedan, identified in Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office arrest information as Isaiah Lee Berrios, 23, was traveling north in the right lane of U.S. 41 south of Jones Loop Road shortly before noon Saturday.
Two pickup trucks were also northbound in the left lane of 41 and another pickup and a van were stopped for traffic in the northbound left lane of 41, all ahead of Berrios.
Three other vehicles, another pickup, a sedan and an SUV, were stopped for traffic in the right lane of 41, ahead of Berrios.
The front left of Berrios’ car collided with four of the pickups and the van, forcing the front of the van into the rear of the car, and the car into the rear of the SUV.
Berrios, who suffered minor injuries, was arrested for seven counts of DUI with property damage and cited for careless driving. He remains in Charlotte County Jail.
The other drivers and passengers, from North Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte, were unhurt.
