A Fort Myers woman died from her injuries a week after she was struck by an SUV while attempting to walk across U.S. 41 near Harper Road in Lehigh Acres.

On Dec. 23, a 38-year-old Fort Myers man, was driving north on U.S. 41 in an SUV when the front left of his vehicle struck the woman walking, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release issued Friday.

The pedestrian came to rest in the northbound, inside lane of U.S. 41. The SUV stopped near the collision area.

The 40-year-old woman was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers in serious condition. Officials pronounced her dead on Dec. 30, the release states.

The crash investigation is ongoing The agency has not released the identities of the pedestrian or the driver.
