Jose Mourinho accepts one-year prison sentence… but former Man Utd boss won’t go to jail | Football | Sport



The former Manchester United boss has accepted the sentence for tax fraud during his time in Spain.

However, it’s understood the Special One will not serve time in jail.

Mourinho has exchanged the sentence for a hefty fine to avoid going to prison.

The Portuguese will have to pay around £1.75m (€2m) in fines.

Mourinho failed to declare revenue from image rights from 2011 and 2012 during his time at Real Madrid.

The former Real manager was accused of owning Spanish authorities around £2.9m (€3.3m).

Mourinho had the ‘aim of obtaining illicit profits’.

The 56-year-old had already settled a previous claim in 2014, which saw Mourinho fined around £1.1m.

However, it’s claimed by prosecutors that some of the information presented was incorrect.

It’s been a rough week for Mourinho after the former United boss slipped over at the KHL game between SKA St Petersburg and Avangard Omsk.

Mourinho was a special guest at the ice hockey clash, however, he took a tumble on the ice.

The Special One has been out of work since being sacked by United in December.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward opted to sack Mourinho after a dismal start to the season.

Mourinho has been linked with a return to Real Madrid after reportedly turning down the Benfica job.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Mourinho at Old Trafford – and the former United star has hit the ground running.

Solskjaer has won nine and drawn one of United’s first 10 games in charge.
