Kate Middleton and her style choices are admired by many, with the clothes that she wears often selling out shortly after she’s been seen in them. Considered a style icon by many, the world was watching as she arrived at the Chelsea Flower Show 2019 on Monday evening. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a £2,602 designer dress. The total spend on the ensemble was £11,912.
This was, in part, due to the large pearl earrings she wore from Cassandra Goad, which sell for £4,360.
She also wore her Cartier Ballon Blue 33mm watch, which comes in at £4,950.
Kate also opted for a pair of wedge heels, thought to be her Castaner ‘Carina’ espadrille wedges which sell for around £134.
The dress itself was the Shebah Floral Cotton-Silk Gown by British-Canadian designer Erdem.
While Kate may not have been spotted in this particular garment before, another royal had.
In fact, at the Royal Wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry back in May last year, the Duchess of Kent, 86, had chosen to wear the dress.
It seems to be a very popular choice amongst the Royal Family, as Princess Eugenie has also worn a similar piece.
The Princess wore a different version of the same print in April this year.
It’s not the first time that the Duchess has been spotted wearing a dress which was also seen at the Royal Wedding.
She wore a blue and white polka-dot Alessandra Rich midi dress.
While it’s now out of stock on Net-A-Porter, it usually sells for £1,225.
The garment may have seemed familiar to some, as it was also seen at the Royal Wedding in May last year.
Abigail Spencer, Meghan Markle’s friend and former Suits co-star, had opted for the designer get-up.
However, the pair wore the look in very different ways.
The actor, for instance, teamed the dress with a black belt, as well as a blue hat.
Meanwhile, Kate wore the dress belt-free, with a pair of pale blue heels.
How did Kate Middleton become a royal?
Kate Middleton, or Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, was born on 9 January 1982 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, England.
She was born to Michael and Carole Middleton, a former flight dispatcher and air hostess. The couple founded a party supplies company, Party Pieces, in 1987 – now estimated to be worth £30 million.
Kate has a younger sister Pippa Matthews, 34, and a younger brother James Middleton, 31.
Kate and her family moved to Amman, Jordan, in 1984, where the future Duchess was educated at an English-speaking nursery school.
After moving back to Berkshire the family sent Kate to private school, St Andrews School. She went on to briefly study at Downe House before moving onto Marlborough College where she boarded.
For university the young Kate attended the University of St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. Here she was awarded an undergraduate MA (2:1 Hons) in history of art.
Relationship with Prince William
Kate met Prince William when they were both studying at St Andrews, and both living in St Salvator’s Hall. Famously, William reportedly took a fancy to Kate after she wore a see-through dress during a fashion show.
In 2003 the couple began dating and lived together during their second year of university.
The couple split in April 2007, however, in October they were back together.
Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with his late mother Princess Diana’s engagement ring in October 2010. The couple were holidaying in Kenya at the time.
On 29 April 2011 they married at Westminster Abbey with a whopping 26 million watching the event live.
Kate wore an Alexander McQueen dress worth a reported £250,000 on the big day.
Kate assumed the title “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge” and also become the Duchess of Cambridge on the day.
