Kyrie Irving should be traded by Celtics after saying THIS – NBA legend | Other | Sport

That is the view of former Celtics star Chauncey Billups.

Irving will become a free agent this year and has admitted that he might not sign a new deal at the Celtics.

In recent weeks, he has been heavily linked with moves to either the New York Knicks or the Los Angeles Lakers at the end of the season.

He had previously promised fans that he would re-sign at the Celtics, but has since changed his tune.

When asked on Friday, Irving said: “Ask me on July 1st.

“It’s nothing but a distraction at this point.

“Across the league there’s outside noise and my name gets thrown into it.

“I know it’s a bunch of nonsense for me.

“I will make the best decision for myself and my family.”

And Billups explained that those quotes from Irving were his way of letting the world know he wants to leave.

The Knicks, based just an hour away from Irving’s hometown of New Jersey, recently traded Kristaps Porzingas in an attempt to clear up salary cap space, and it is rumoured that they will make a move for him in free agency.

“First of all I think Kyrie is right, it’s all about this season,” Billups said.

“But if you’re Danny Haynes, you have to listen to what he’s said.

“And I think you have to listen to any calls that might come in.

“And any trade calls, too.

“I’m not saying they’re going to trade him, because it’s tough to do that.

“But to me, he told the world he’s not coming back to Boston.

“That’s just how I feel.”
