A 27-year-old Lehigh Acres man was killed Tuesday afternoon after the motorcycle he was riding hit a car on State Road 31.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the man driving the motorcycle was traveling south on 31 in North Fort Myers and approaching the intersection with Bayshore Road shortly before 3 p.m.

A car driven by a 37-year-old Cape Coral man had a solid green light and was stopped in the left turn on the northbound lane of 31 at Bayshore.

The crash report said the driver of car made a left turn onto Bayshore, failing to yield to oncoming traffic and the motorcyclist hit the right side of the car. Troopers said the traffic signal had turned to solid yellow light when the crash occurred.

The motorcyclist was thrown from the vehicle and it continued on, striking a third vehicle, a pickup that was behind the car turning left.

The motorcyclist was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital and later died.

Information on the identity of the victim and others involved was withheld from the report due to Marsy’s Law.

None of the occupants of the other vehicles involved were injured, the FHP said. The fatality was the 81st on Lee County roads in 2020.
