A motorcyclist died after a crash when a motorist was backing out of his driveway in Lehigh Acres on Saturday afternoon, Florida Highway Patrol reported. 

According to troopers, a 31-year-old Lehigh Acres man was heading east on 8th Street Southwest near Ruth Avenue South about noon when a 55-year-old Lehigh Acres man backed his SUV out of his driveway and into the path of the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased on scene. Troopers cited the older driver with a mandatory court appearance for improper backing.

The motorcyclist’s fatality is at least the 16th on Lee County roads in 2021. There were 105 fatalities on Lee County roads in 2020.

Troopers did not release the names of those involved in the crash.
