An 18-year-old from Lehigh Acres is facing multiple charges stemming from a car chase through the streets of Miami Beach on Sunday.
Isariel Delestre remained in Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami on $23,500 bond on charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, false imprisonment, fleeing and eluding marked police cars at high speed and resisting arrest.
Initial reports from Miami Beach Police said officers were conducting traffic enforcement near the southern tip of the South Beach area when a black Cadillac ran a stop sign and refused to stop for an officer.
The driver then struck another officer’s motorcycle near 2 Street and Ocean Drive and a pursuit ensued with the driver hitting several vehicles while fleeing.
The pursuit continued down Ocean Drive which was closed to traffic at the time with pedestrians scattering as the Cadillac and police units zipped by tables set up on the street for restaurant dining.
The car was stopped near 6 Street and Washington Avenue where the driver was arrested and three occupants were detained.
Investigation revealed the Cadillac was stolen out of Miami-Dade County.
Delestre, who police say fled the car during the pursuit, turned himself in to Miami Beach Police Monday night.
Information from police indicated that a 15-year-old from Lehigh Acres was driving the Cadillac when it was finally stopped and that there was a gun with an extended magazine with him. The 15-year-old is also facing multiple charges and remains in juvenile detention in the Miami area.
The News-Press is not naming the 15-year-old due to his age.
