Vaccines mean ‘time for celebration’
It truly is a time for worldwide celebration and thanksgiving as the final touches are being put on coronavirus vaccines so President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed program can distribute them, worldwide.
I was looking forward to reading about Trump’s amazing accomplishment on the opinion page; but my fellow citizens do not understand the incredible speed and accuracy with which these vaccines were developed, how Trump slammed his foot on the sports car called America to achieve a holiday miracle. Ask any credible scientist back in February whether two vaccines would be ready by the holidays, and the odds would be zero.
Instead, the newspaper publishes gloom, doom and hate. You liberals wouldn’t know a miracle if it kicked you in the groin.
The world is about to begin taking Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine — 95% effective. Another vaccine, from Moderna, also is ready to distribute. These vaccines will save the lives of billions of people. Once again, it is America’s exceptionalism that saved the world. It typically takes years to develop a vaccine, if possible, yet Americans developed two in eight months, as Trump promised, with the media mocking him.
Trump has been telling us for months that we are about to “round the corner” on this horrible virus, and he is right, as the world is about to be saved by the vaccines. Thank you, President Trump!

Voter fraud cases failing in courts
I commend the newspaper for publishing a swath of views regarding the election and now the president’s unsubstantiated attacks on democracy. If there were voter fraud of the level to change electoral votes, the factual arguments in the courts would prevail.
There are no fact-based arguments in courts because President Trump lost both the popular and Electoral College votes.
What we are subjected to are his rants against the fundamentals of democracy, which, recall, elected him to the office a few years ago.
The grand failure is by the leadership of the GOP standing shoulder to shoulder with Trump in their silence or support. The once values-based, principals-driven GOP has faded and now hides behind the fear that Trump’s base will seek retribution on them for speaking truth about democracy.
Trump won Southwest Florida and the state, but he lost in the national counts: popular and Electoral College. Trump lost. President-elect Biden won. It’s easy to say. Let’s move forward now! It’s what is prescribed in the U.S. Constitution.

Trump’s latest ‘shock’ for attention
What else is new in the four-year saga of Donald Trump? Nothing. He has spent his entire presidency conjuring the shock of the week. Anything that ensures his majesty the baby is garnering all the attention.
Now that Joe Biden has defeated him fair and square, Trump faces nearly three months of somebody else in the spotlight before he slides kicking and tweeting into oblivion. OMG can’t deal with that. Time to subvert the election — that will certainly reward him with center stage.
The Pied Piper of Tweets gathers his flock and nearly 100 percent of duly elected Republican senators and representatives with the usual baseless, false narratives as they follow him like children off the cliff of lies.
What is terrifying is they would have him steal the presidency while they cloak themselves with the American flag. They are folks who were taught the same civics lessons I embraced from childhood, that the United States is the greatest country on Earth because our democracy renews and recharges every two years with free and fair elections. Rather, they would ignore this truth and surrender our fragile republic to a tyrannical narcissist and his spineless minions.

‘Time to invoke the 25th’ Amendment
History books will record the fact that in November 2020, defeated President Donald J. Trump attempted to undermine our democracy by overthrowing the results of the election in which Joe Biden got 6 million more popular votes and 306 Electoral College votes.
More shocking, nearly all national Republican leaders, including Sens. Scott and Rubio of Florida, remained mute as this threat to American democracy played out. About 52% of Republicans polled* believed Trump “rightfully won” the election. The seeds of doubt about the integrity of our system of elections were sown in a way that was sure to cast doubt on the credibility of future election results.
We must end this nightmare. It is time to invoke the 25th to immediately remove the 45th and pave the way for a smooth transition for the 46th.

*Editor’s note: A Reuters/Ipsos survey Nov. 13-17 found 73% of those polled agreed Biden won the election, while 5% thought Trump won. However, about 52% of Republicans polled thought Trump “rightfully won” but that widespread voter fraud favored Biden. Only 29% of Republicans thought Biden had rightfully won.
