Schools should limit screen time
Collier County School District should be commended for educating our children during one of the most challenging periods in recent history. Computer-based learning was fast-tracked, in many cases to limit contact to minimize the risks of spreading illness. But, is this reliance on computer-based learning now here to stay? Screens can play a role in the classroom, but overuse of screen time has many proven detrimental effects on general health, mental health, and brain functions necessary for learning. Furthermore, often computer-based learning is superficial, and the supposed benefits of “differentiated learning” through the use of technology are elusive.
Studies show that more screen time leads to worse school performance – not to mention the troubling evidence of health effects on developing brains and eyes. Sleep deprivation, depression, myopia, attention problems can be the direct result of too many hours spent in front of a screen. It is time to act. The school district needs to develop a clear district-wide policy that mandates time limits and a clear rationale for the appropriate use of technology in classrooms. Furthermore, transparency dictates that data be communicated about when, how much, and for what purposes our children are planted in front of screens.

No lectures from Donna Brazile
Recently the Naples Daily News/USA Today gave more than a full editorial column to Donna Brazile to lecture the citizens of Collier County on telling the truth. Would this be the same Donna Brazile that as a moderator in a primary presidential election debate gave the questions to Hillary Clinton before the debate? Why would we accept her analysis and views on a presidential election?
The reason that millions of people question the legitimacy of the presidential election is simple. The press, Democratic Party, and liberal establishment combined to suppress any questions about illegitimate voting in the election. Efforts to audit and review voting irregularities in key counties and states were quashed. Had those inquiries been allowed to proceed then the results of the election would have been widely accepted.
She is appalled that minority leader Mitch McConnell is standing up to the Biden administration. The first 100 days of the administration provide evidence enough why Mitch McConnell’s views are sound. The presidential election in Collier County was conducted in accordance with Florida state law and efficiently administered with monitored drop boxes and voter ID. Too bad the rest of the country could not conduct an election in such a manner. We do not need lectures by Donna Brazile.

An embarrassing question
If there really are aliens, how embarrassing would it be if they asked to be taken to our leaders?

No place for profane flags
Here in Cape Coral and elsewhere, I’m sure, some sore losing idiots put up flags in their yard saying F*** Biden. Not only is this appalling but it shows the IQ of someone with such hatred and disdain for their fellow neighbors with children who walk by these every day. The first amendment protects even morons so I don’t know what has to happen for this to abate.
Trump always said at his rallies that he loved the uneducated and this latest display shows exactly why.

GOP rushes to suppress voting
They’re at it again. Florida’s governor signed another voter suppression law with restrictions on absentee ballots and drop boxes, requires voters to reapply for absentee ballots every two years, and limits who can drop off ballots, among other unnecessary hurdles.
Florida has become another state where cynical Republican leaders have rushed in a panic to address their concern that too many Democrats voted last year.
The GOP thinks the only way they can win is to make it as tough as possible for young people, African-Americans and Democrats to vote. The party’s members tolerate attacks on democracy and indulge extremists in their ranks and then express shock when the consequence is an assault on the U.S. Capitol. It is now a party that promotes dangerous conspiracy theories leading to violence. It is a party that tries to undo legitimate elections.
The GOP believes the easiest way to ensure a president fails at achieving promised cooperation is to refuse to cooperate, first with President Obama and now with President Biden.
These trends, making it harder to vote, humoring conspiracy lies, refusing to cooperate with the other party, and ignoring legitimate threats to our democracy must end. Vote Democrat.
