Robbie is reprising the popular role in the follow-up to Suicide Squad, in which she received a hugely positive reception – despite the film’s lukewarm performance with critics and at the box office. In just a matter of hours, Robbie’s pic – which sees her back in costume – has received over 1.5 million Likes on her Instagram account.
She captioned the snap a simple: “Miss me? [Kiss emoji] HQ”.
Robbie has already discussed the fact that Harley will get multiple iterations of her costume in the new ensemble blockbuster, which will also star Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
Ewan McGregor and Ella Jay Basco are also on board, with Robbie also producing.
The film – which has a full name of Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) – is directed by Cathy Yan and has a release date of February 7, 2020.
Asked about the title by Variety, screenwriter Christina Hodson said: “My hands are so tied. But I do think it speaks for itself a little bit.
“Emancipation means a lot of different things to a lot of different people, and we’re going to be exploring that in different ways.”
And on Robbie’s character, she enthused: “She is such a cool, bold, fun, great character. She doesn’t have to be in anyone’s shadow.
“So I’m excited to see Harley stand on her own and be her own thing. She is the character, in all of my writing, that I’ve most enjoyed.
“I’m excited to bring her into the world a second time. She’s so full of contradictions, she’s so intelligent, but also so crazy.
“She’s just the most fun to write. You never know what you’re gonna get when you sit down.”
Filming is reported to have begun earlier this month in Los Angeles.
Birds of Prey is out on February 7, 2020.
