Meghan Markle was pictured at the Royal Academy of Arts in central London yesterday evening.
However, as she made her arrival, the 37-year-old chose to do something very unexpected.
After shaking hands with one of her hosts, the Duchess of Sussex placed one hand on the car she’d travelled in.
She proceeded to close the door – and the simple act soon set tongues wagging on Twitter.
The Duchess went on to chat with her host while walking towards the entrance of the venue, in view of the world’s media.
Royal Correspondent for The Sun, Emily Andrews, wrote: “#duchessofsussex arrives at the RA.
“A princess who still takes the time to shut her car door. Well done Meghan!”
Meanwhile, another social media user commented: “First time I’ve seen an on-duty princess shut her own car door…”
A third penned: “She looks gorgeous, and I love she closed her own door.”
While the move left some very surprised, Meghan has shut her own car door a number of times while on royal duty in the past.
Last week, the Duchess arrived in a black car at Kensington Palace with her mother Doria Ragland and husband Prince Harry.
As they arrived at the official palace luncheon in order to mark the launch of the new book, Together: Our Community Cookbook, Meghan climbed out of the backseat.
As her mum, 62, stepped out of the front of the car, the former actress closed her door shut.
Prince Harry appeared to follow suit, as he made his way around the back of the car.
While there is no official royal protocol on the action, Queen Elizabeth and the Duchess of Cambridge have traditionally opted against closing the car door behind them.
The dress, which retails at £2,200, fell to a mid-length cut and featured a high neck.
She teamed the get-up with a pair of black Aquazurra heels – which are priced at £490.
Finishing off her glamorous look, the Duchess completed her outfit with a black clutch bag.
She had opted for another Givenchy piece – with the accessory being priced at £1,390.
