Mesut Ozil will embarrass Arsenal unless he leaves now – Francis slams star | Football | Sport

That’s the damning verdict of beIN Sports pundit Trevor Francis.

Mesut Ozil has been out of favour this season under Emery, with he Spaniard preferring the likes of Aaron Ramsey in the starting line-up.

But with Ramsey set to leave the club for Serie A champions Juventus in the summer, Ozil may be Emery’s only choice soon.

And Francis, who was talking on beIN Sports before Arsenal’s clash with Manchester United in the FA Cup, believes that the German needs to leave the club soon.

“It’s a difficult situation for Emery,” he said.

“The decision to let Ramsey go has probably been taken out of his hands.

“He’s got a starting the position and he’s leaving the club at the end of the season, Whereas Ozil, the highest paid player in the history of the club, is not able to start because emery doesn’t fancy him.

“With one week to go of the transfer deadline, the one thing Emery would wish for is that someone takes Ozil off his hands because he’s going to become an embarrassment to him.”

Ramsey has reportedly already agreed a deal that will see him join Juve on a five-year contract at the end of the season for free.

And Francis is of the opinion that Ozil’s monstrous wages have forced Emery’s decision to let the Welshman go.

“The huge contract has forced them into letting Ramsey leave,” Francis added.

“It’s a mistake letting Ramsey go to Juventus because he’s good enough to get into the starting line up.

“Ozil on £350,000-a-week is ridiculous because Emery has his hands tied now.

“Ozil is going to be a huge problem to him. He doesn’t want Ozil in the starting line up.”

Arsenal lost their FA Cup fourth round tie with United on Friday night 3-1, in which Ozil came on as a substitute.

The Gunners are now relying on the Europa League for trophy this success this season and will focus all their efforts on trying to secure a Champions League spot for next season.
