Two die in crash after leaving funeral home in Lehigh Acres

Two men leaving a cemetery died Friday night when a driver turned onto State Road 82 in Lehigh Acres, putting it in the path of two teens in another car.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a 19-year-old man was driving a sedan east in the center lane of SR 82 east of Owen when an SUV driven by a 50-year-old motorist left Lee Memorial Park.

The park is a cemetery and home to Hodges Funeral Home.

The SUV went into a sedan’s path, which was in the center lane headed west, troopers reported. The impact killed the SUV’s driver and a passenger, a 44-year-old man. The teen driver received minor injuries, as did his passenger, an 18-year-old man. 

All four men were from Lehigh Acres.

Troopers said the crash remains under investigation.
