Two Fort Myers residents are facing charges, accused of taking part in a purse-snatching that left an older female victim seriously injured.
Stefan Dewayne Rease, 24, and Kelly Marie Berry, 25, were arrested Saturday and charged in the incident, Lee County Sheriff’s Office reports.
According to a video released by the sheriff’s office, Rease approached a group of women at a shopping plaza at U.S. 41 and Crystal in Fort Myers. He grabbed the purse, and the woman hung on, with Rease dragging her several feet before breaking free.
Reae then jumped into an SUV, which deputies said Berry was driving.
Rease remains in Lee County Jail on $75,000 bond on charges of robbery by sudden snatching and battery on a person 65 or older.
Berry was charged on robbery by sudden snatching charges and released Tuesday on $2,500 bond.
Both will be arraigned April 12.
Surveillance footage at the crime scene, the Bealls Department Store on South Cleveland Avenue in south Fort Myers, shows the woman walking in a parking lot March 10 when a man runs up, grabs the strap of her purse and starts to run.
The woman, holding on, is pulled to the ground and dragged about 10 feet before letting go of the purse and the man runs off.
Witnesses provided deputies with a description of an SUV the man fled in. The vehicle was spotted by deputies Friday and Rease and Berry arrested.
